STILL CURIOUS?

HOW DO I COOK PLANTAINS? ×

The possibilities are endless, but your plantain's ripeness is a pretty good place to start. Green plantains are firm and starchy, making them perfect for frying into crispy tostones or chips, or simmering in a savoury stew. As they turn yellow, they become sweeter and more tender, making them delicious baked, grilled, or pan-fried with a sprinkle of cinnamon. And don't let the black peel fool you, because that's when plantains are at their sweetest and practically begging to be caramelized, mashed, or turned into dessert.

Your plantain masterpiece deserves more than a spot in your camera roll. Follow @equifruit and tag us on socials.

HOW DO I STORE PLANTAINS? +

Keep your plantains on the counter until they reach your preferred ripeness. Skip the fridge while they're ripening, since the cold can darken the peel before the inside is ready. Once ripe, pop them in the fridge to buy yourself a few extra days. The peel might turn black, but the inside is still good. Got more than you can handle? Peel, slice, and freeze for later.

WHERE CAN I FIND EQUIFRUIT PLANTAINS? +

Right on our Find Our Products page. Pick plantains on the map and see which stores near you carry them. Make us proud out there.

ARE PLANTAINS RELATED TO BANANAS? +

They're related, but don't get them mixed up. Plantains are starchier, firmer, and less sweet than regular bananas, making them ideal for cooking. Green plantains are perfect for savoury dishes, while ripe ones bring the sweetness. Both are available from Equifruit, organic and Fairtrade-certified.
